Hi Alison,

have had a look through my set of fiche for the names you sent me

William Haynes 32  B     lab       H/Norton   George  lab
Mary Ann Eden 32  S  cant read     "           Joseph  cant read

there are 2 Joseph Eden's so take your pick

21 APR 1805 Joseph s/o Wm Staford & Sarah Eaden (private)
17 DEC 1809 Joseph s/o William & catherine Eaden (go for this one)

Sorry to shoot a hole in your tree but William & Mary Ann only had 3 children, all after marriage  (all surnamed Eaden)

31 MAY 1876 Ann Maria d/o William & Mary Ann (lab) Southrop
31 MAY 1876 Fred         s/o       "            "      "      "          "
2 DEC 1877 Elizabeth   d/o        "           "      "      "          "
there is also another but I'm rather doubtful about her being a sibling

3 JAN 1883 Rosa d/o William & Mary (lab)

There was a Richard & Sarah who had 6 children prior to 1873 also a Richard & Mary Ann who had children prior to 1873

I hope this helps you out but I still have some more to do for you & aint forgot

All the very best

Phil

Hi Phil,

Thanks so much for these - I will follow that likely Joseph linkand see where I get.
You have me intrigued about Wm and Mary Ann though.   I have their marriage cert - 1 Mar 1874 Hook Norton, but also these census records which do not fit in with the baptismal records at all it seems.

Here is 1871:  Emily H Eden abt 1865  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Daughter  Hook Norton  Oxfordshire
George Eden abt 1868  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton  Oxfordshire

John E Eden abt 1870  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Domestic  Hook Norton  Oxfordshire

Mary Ann Eden abt 1843  Clonmel?, Ireland Head  Hook Norton  Oxfordshire

William Eden abt 1866  Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton  Oxfordshire

William Haynes abt 1843  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Boarder  Hook Norton  Oxfordshire

and here they are again in 1881:
Ann Maria Haynes abt 1873  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Daughter  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

Elizabeth Haynes abt 1878  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Daughter  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

Fred Haynes abt 1875  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

George Haynes abt 1868  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

John E. Haynes abt 1870  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

Mary A. Haynes abt 1843  Ireland Wife  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

Thomas Haynes abt 1880  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

William Haynes abt 1843  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England Head  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

William Haynes abt 1866  Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Son  Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England

Later, (according to 1891 census) there is Rosa (82) Frank (85) and Ellen (87)

All surnames are "Eden" in 71 and "Haynes" from 81 onwards.

I assumed they simply didn't marry till later, however the earliest 4 children may have had a different father???
Any light you can shed would be much appreciated!!!

best wishes, Alison

Hi Alison,

Hi there Phil,

no need to apologise!   my guess is they weren't exactly churchgoers!  and simply did not have children baptised (especially illegitimate ones)  Earlier generations of Haynes also seem to have several adult baptisms (probably when someone, now and adult, wanted to marry in C of E)
So don't look too hard!  and thank you so much for the baptisms you have found.

all the best, Alison
