Hi Hussar

Ref for marriage is vol 6 page 391 district is Hungerford Berkshire

Do you have William on the 1861 census

    William Barrett
    age 38
     Estimated year of birth 1823
     birth place Kintbury
     birth county Dorset

I do not know if there is a Kintbury in Dorset or if Kintbury was ever in  the county of Dorset  , also for the place of birth for wife and children there are all in the county of Dorset but i think  Hungerford and Pangbourne and Hermitage were all in Berkshire. I will cross ref the 1861 census and see if there have put the county down wrong

The image actually shows "Kintbury Do" where Do means ditto - i.e. Berkshire in this case.   The transcriber has decided that "Do" is Dorset !!

The "do" or ditto, replicates the county from 14 people above - which shows Dorset!

An error by the enumerator, then ::)

You are right - they were all Berkshire placenames, so I didn't bother to go to the top - just assumed  :-[
