Research in Thüringen / Thuringia
« on: Saturday 29 September 12 14:02 BST (UK) »
Dear all
I have traced back a line to a place called Ilm in Thüringen. Problem is this place does not now exist, and I am at a loss to know whether to research in Stadtilm or in the whole area or what...!
Can someone recommend an archive or a resource for research in this area? Previous research in Schönberg was rather easy but I don't know how to find records in Thüringen.
Many thanks
Matthew

See also Wikipedia for some background info.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilm-Kreis
there is more information on the german page, if you can read it.
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilm-Kreis

It seems there is a River Ilm, so many places will have Ilm in their name.
It could be that your people said "from the Ilm" meaning somewhere in this area.

Stadtilm is also described in Wiki, but mainly on the german page
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadtilm
"Stadtilm liegt als lang gestreckter Ort am Ufer der Ilm,..."
Stadtilm is a long stretched place along the banks of the Ilm ...

regards,
Bob

think it will be meant of sure Stadtilm stated by Berlin-Bob, as this means "Town-Ilm".
this will be used to make different to the river Ilm.
Stadt = town

in fact the river and town have the same name.
