Lysseene in Queens County

Does anybody know where Lysseene would be in Laois? I have found mention of it in a list of outlawed Williamites from 1689.

although I cannot find one in Laois the names could sound like Lissane whih means little fort and found in other counties

Also this is a shot in the dark but depending on the reference there were seven Clans of Laois:
O'Moore, O'Lalor, O'Doran, O'Dowling, O'Devoy, O'Kelly and McEvoy;
they were ousted from the area during the late 1500s and early 1600s by Oliver Cromwell
Collectively they were known as the Seven Laoises which to me makes Lyssene sound like an anglicised version
Laois had become Queens County by 1689
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

It is , or was a place not a surname and was described as of Queens County in 1689.

Other places mentioned in Queens County, which may be nowhere near, I know, are:

Montrath
Disert
Bannagherry
Grangebegg

Another member of the same family, Starkey, was at Montrath/Mountrath which I think is near Abbeyleix.

Hi Stu,

'as the crow flies' Mountrath is not too far from Abbeyleix..

Disert = Dysart
the one of these I'm most familiar with is on the outskirts of Portlaoise

Is there something in particular that you are looking for as obviously you are talking about a LONG time before civil registration began ?

I am just trying to find the place on a modern map, purely out of curiosity.

I was wondering if Lysseene was an anglicised version of an irish place name but I still don't see any names which appear similar.

It still could be an anglicised version of just Laois/Laoises/Leix

I have seen Laois-Offaly; Laois-Carlow and Laois-Queen's County in various formats and spellings
Some also refer to Laois as Laoighaise which could easily be Lyssene to a non-Irish speaker phonetically

This is just conjecture but depending on the context of the reference I'd be leaning this way.

Thanks, that makes sense.
