war memorial Wallasey
« on: Monday 01 October 12 17:26 BST (UK) »
William Saunders, died during the battle of the Somme 27.10.1916. His name is on the memorial at Thiepval but not on the memorial in Wallasey. He was born in Seacombe in 1892. There is a William Saunders on the Wallasey memorial but he has a middle name, great uncle Billy had only 1 christian name.
Anyone know if it's possible to have his name added to the book of Remembrance.? I doubt if it could be added to the stone memorial.
Thanks Jeanette McIntyre

Which Book of Remembrance are you referring to?

The Memorial is almost certainly now in the care of the local authority, so I would suggest that you contact the Cemeteries Department to ask them for advice

Thanks for the information. I assumed that there would be a paper copy of the names on the war memorial.

Are you talking about the memorial at Mill lane hospital?

I don't know Wallasey very well  and have lived away from the Wirral for many years. All I know is that my greatuncle Billy's name is not on the Hospital memorial at Mill Lane. I've not been ble to access any others. There is a William H. Saunders named but his name was William Saunders, no middle name.
I don't know where to go from there.

Thanks  Jeanette McIntyre

The hospital memorial.  I will try and pop in to see the names some time. I took this photo a few years back.

Bit confused as there is no sign of his death on the CWGC site for that date or between 20th - 31st.  Have you got the right date?

Edit.  Found him now with the extra information given.
