I have been researching the Rev Robert Grisdale the founder of Matterdale School. See link below:

I wonder if anyone has other views on his family connection?

I wonder if Queen's may still have the original records from which the Alumni publication was produced.

Good question. I have the Queen's college two volume history (available in pdf on the internet) which is full of useful information but it doesn't seem to be the source for the details of Robert's father. But if you go to the record office you will find a copy of the 1716 Deed of Trustees of Matterdale School. This I believe has more history and annotations re some of Robert's family. I'd be very interested in the full text plus any ideas regarding who added to family info and when?

I guess you mean proof regarding his parentage? The rest re Barton School etc and his connection with William Lancaster seems pretty clear?

Yes, I was meaning proof of parentage. I would surmise that if Queens have the original admission register and his father is named as Thomas, then that would be as trustworthy as a baptismal entry in a church register.
