HOE / HOWE OF MATTISHALL c 1775 *COMPLETED*
« on: Thursday 04 October 12 20:09 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the baptism of my ancestor Susan(nah) HOE which could well have been HOWE or similar.  Her father's name was John HOE or HOWE, a woolcomber.

She claimed to have been born in 'Matsell' (Mattishall) around 1775.

It seems that the Mattishall parish registers are not as yet complete on FreeREG or on the Familysearch site(?)  I can only find the Mattishall Burgh registers on the latter and assume she was baptised in Mattishall All Saints church.

If the baptism exists it will be on a register at Norfolk Record Office, I suppose.

Could anyone going there kindly have a look for me, please?  No rush, no pressure!  Lots of thanks in advance -

Regards

Hi Adam,
I had a look in Mattishall for your Susan(nah) Hoe or Howe abt 1775

I am afraid i could not see anything regarding a Susan or Susannah

These ones i came across which might be relevant to your family? but you did'nt give me the mothers name? so not sure if they are yours or not?

Children of John & Mary Howe ( nee Wodehouse )
Charles Bap Aug 8th 1779
John Bap Dec 3 1780
William Bap Dec 30 1781

Children of John & Elizabeth Howes  ( John was a weaver )
John Bap 15 Sep 1783
Sarah Bap 3 Nov 1786
Richard Bap 8 Mar 1789

Marriage
John Howes to Mary Wodehouse both single, both of the parish of Mattishall.
Banns read: 20th, 27th Sept & 1st October 1778

I picked up from some census' that she might have been born abt 1772 but i covered from 1770.
Sorry i could'nt be of any more help

Jackie,

Many thanks indeed for your help.  I would not be surprised if my ancestor is related to one of these families.  We don't as yet know what her mother's name was, and know only that her father was John.

For now I'll keep these recorda and hope to find more in the future.  Thanks for your time and work!
