Rev Benjamin Grisdale of Matterdale
« on: Friday 05 October 12 11:40 BST (UK) »
I've been researching Benjamin's interesting life: http://grisdalefamily.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/rev-benjamin-grisdale-and-the-siege-of-yorktown-1781/

I would welcome ideas on who his grandfather was. His father was also Benjamin thus there are two possibilities I think: Joseph Grisdale (married Jane Martin) whose son Benjamin was born 1713 or one of the two Thomas Grisdales in Watermillock , I'd prefer the one whose son Joseph was born in 1706. Because the Rev Benjamin's brother Rev Browne Grisdale  had a son called Joseph Browne Grisdale I prefer Joseph as grandfather at the moment, and due to his possible age.

Any thoughts?

Also any record of Benjamin senior's death? He married Ann Browne of Watermillock and after being in Threlkeld the family moved to Maryport?

Thanks I have but have to say there's a lot wrong in it. And people copy it blindly.

Thanks Geoff

The third one is Ben G "Yeoman of Brownrigg" born 1754 son of Benj G and Agnes Hudson. The father (1711-1779) was the son of Edward Grisdale who was the brother of the Rev Robert Grisdale founder of Mattertdale School.

The second one is Benj G born 1736 in Watermillock son of Benj Grisdale and Grace Railton. This Benj senior was I think one of two Benjamins having children in Watermillock between 1736 and 1750, both Benjamins Seniors in WML seem to have Thomas as a father. Still trying to unpick all this, which even though I have all the records isn't easy!

But i still can't find a suitable death for Benj Gr the father of the Rev Benj Grisdale. I think it must by in the 1770s-1790s maybe near Maryport?
