On rootsireland.ie there is an Ann born to that couple (spelt Keigan) in 1848 in St Pauls Arran Quay.  Might be worth buying the full record.

Thanks Johnjensen.  I have a lot of references for St Paul's which is why I have previously tried to look them up at the National Library.  I will now add that to my list.  there should also be a Michael around 1851 and a Richard 1854 or 1855 who may belong to Richard & Bridget Charlotte or to Richard & Henrietta.  Bridget was born around 1847 but may not have been born in Dublin according to an note given to me many years ago.

To Richard and Henrietta Kavanagh there are John 1855, Edward 1862 and Richard John 1866, all in St Pauls.  The following gave me the lead on Henrietta's surname:

Thanks again, that is very helpful as it suggest that the whole family (excluding my Bridget) should be found there.  Richard and Henrietta also had a Mary in 1864 who may be the one shown as baptised in Co. Dublin on the free search.

Using the free search I also found a Bridget born 1846 in County Wicklow who may be mine.  given the sheer number of records, I need (several other families too) I think it still makes sense to try again at the National Library (at 5 Euros per record, the thirty or so I am expecting to find at St Paul's almost covers my fare to Dublin! :-) )

Thanks, I'd found that one.  As it is only only two months after the death of Charlotte, it seems a little hasty to be the same Richard marrying again but, if he had been left with very young children, it's always possible!

Just a quick question.  I think that I used RootsIreland before and only got a transcription.  Is this correct or would I get an image of the original record  for the St Paul's, Arran Quay records?

transcriptions only at the moment, although recently they sent an email stating that they could provide images (not sure if an additional fee is charged...) for some parishes in Co. Armagh.

thanks Shane.

definitely worth saving the cost towards my Dublin trip then, as I always like to see the entry itself when possible.
