Owens Papineau - Buenos Aires to UK
« on: Sunday 07 October 12 14:25 BST (UK) »
Hi Roots Chatters,
I'm looking for arrival of my grandfather from South America to UK. Date early 1900's before 1909.
He was Owens PAPINEAU b abt 1890; possibly travelling with wife Christina and daughter Rowena.
Rowena b about 1907 in SA. next daughter Noreen b 1909 UK.
Cannot find them in 1911 census!
Can anybody help with access to UK incoming passengers?

Cheers Bobel2

Was he a Yorshireman? Some interesting and conflicting birth/christening places (unusual but possible!) on familysearch.org

Bless you Clare (have another gold star!). Sounds right to me.
Owens and all maternal relatives and step-siblings took the £10 trip to Australia in 1954 (leaving just Dad and I in UK). I have now made contact with a living descendant in Oz. that has given me more info of Owens children. Those born in the UK were all born in Surrey (Reigate/Sevenoaks) so incoming port of London sounds right.
As to travelling 1st Class, the Oz info describes Owens as a "Gentleman Farmer" so probably had the funds to travel in this class.

Thanks for your help Barryd, but Owens and his wife appear to both be born in Buenos Aires so not a Yorkshire man.

Once again many thanks to both of you for your replies - where would we be without 'Chatters'?
