Jedburgh Associate Congregationalist church
« on: Tuesday 09 October 12 14:35 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My ancestor George Reid was born 1811 in Jedburgh and went on to become a congragationalist missionary. His father was John Reid 1771 a Jedburgh gardener and his mother was Anne Frater. Johns Parents were John Reid and Jeannie Turner.
I have found no record of John 1771 birth or marriage to Anne. His parents names were recorded on his death record in 1857.
When I try to search for parish records for the Associate Congregational Church of Jedburgh I'am redirected to the Latter Day Saints (mormon.org) U.S site. Are these records the same as the parish records available on ScotlandsPeople or separate and distinct?
Cheers
John

These seem to be likely the same as those described here www.rootschat.com/links/0rpr/ from the family search site and here www.familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Jedburgh,_Roxburghshire,_Scotland

Hopefully someone can guide you through. Alternatively, you can also contact the Borders FHS and ask for advice.

Just adding also the link to previous post on the family for background www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,615241.0.html

Chris,
Thanks for the post.
On the 1841 census John Reid (1771) is recorded as being born in the county, Roxburghshire.
On the 1851 census he is recorded as being born in Jedburgh.
His death certificate records his birth place as Jedburgh and his parents as John Reid and Jeanie Turner. A transcript of a gravestone at Jedburgh abbey records John and Jean Buried in the plot of her father George Turner.
Therefore I believe the John Reid I am trying to find records for was highly likely to have been born in Jedburgh.

Hi Jonno,

Well in that case I will be looking for the same :) I don't suppose you have found any parents for Ann Frater / Fratter?  I have only found three children for John and Ann, being Margaret John and George. Also, a son for Ann before her and John, his name was Robert and went under the name Frater, his father was Thomas McFarline.

Chris,
Unfortunately I hit a brick wall with Ann. I have seen family trees with her parents named but without proof or source. I paid for a research project by the BFHS at Hawick but they couldn’t provide any further detail. Do you have records of Robert Frater with his parents named?

Hi Jonno :)

Yes, I have a birth record a death record and a photo would be happy to send you a copy of them for your opinion on if you believe it to be the same Ann. I think I also have a record of Ann's death.

I will send you a message
