Had the chance of a lift to Middlesbrough so took the opportunity to look up the marriage on microfilm at the Reference Library.

25 January 1894 St Paul's, Middlesbrough

John William Hayes, 24, bachelor, Fireman, 21 Adam St, father: John Hayes, deceased, Labourer.

Ada Bell, 21, spinster, occupation column: blank, 21 Adam St, father: William Bell, Labourer.

Banns, performed by Ernest A Chattock, Curate.
Witnesses: John Henry Wood, Emma [Beer]?  (poor writing but it did look like Beer)
All signed.

Tees Valley Indexes say the marriage reference number was :

M-201-004-0-0294

'Ecneps' has kindly typed out the list of churches and their reference numbers, forwarded to her by the Middlesbrough Register Office and posted on the link below

Just in case you wondered why I needed the registration in the first place.

Pels.

Hi Pels

Is there a National Archive ref or other counties refer index to these ID church ref numbers data based or GRO.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi Dobby,

Good question, but I'm afraid it's not one I can answer ??

Barbara mentioned the list was kindly sent to her by the Middlesbrough register office. I wonder if it would be worthwhile contacting either them, or the relevant registration office with the same query ?
