SHACKLETON Harewood area 1851or ?1841
« on: Sunday 29 May 05 02:36 BST (UK) »
 :D
Sorry about that - I had thought I'd posted a full message - so I'm not sure what happened here.
Thankfully I had kept a draft - here it is....................

I realise that the 1841 has no surname index & so without an address its no go area.

But would be really grateful if someone could check the.........
1851 Census Index & Census if possible, for the Harewood area for SHACKLETON.

Looking for Mary Shackleton on the Census  ( born c1830/31)
so = about age 10 on the 1841 & age 20 on the 1851
Mary has been recorded on later Blackburn Lancashire censuses as...............
1861 census  "birthplace Harewood, Yorks"
1871 census "birthplace ?Heptonstall, Yorks"

Parents names : probably William & Sarah Shackleton
(awaiting Mary's marriage certificate at present - so hopefully will then be able to  confirm her dad's name)

Thanks for any help
Carole

Mary SHACKLETON m James Smith in Burnley 1856

Hello Oly & Ticker,

Thank you very much for the replies to that old message of mine. & for the Census Data. Really sorry I had missed these replies earlier or would have sent my thanks earlier too.  Haven't done much with my Shackletons for a while , although had previously collected some other probable data.  Will take another look at all this & let you know how all this fits together.
(hopefully it will all fit together!!)

Oly - you asked about Mary's marriage.......

Mary Shackleton (born Harewood) dau of William Shackleton, farmer.
was married at Burnley St Peters in 1856
to James Smith, Corn Miller.
They are my gr.gr.grandparents.
Their first son Robinson Smith was born in Burnley in 1856.
Then they moved to Blackburn where their second son, Samuel Smith, my gr.grandad was born in 1861.  Other children also born Blackburn.

The family as far as I know so far all remained in Blackburn & Burnley.

SO - interesting to see that in the 1841 Census, Mary Shackleton age 10, was in the household of a SMITH family.
At present - can't see any definite connections between that Smith family & mine.

Thanks again for your help.  Much appreciated.

Carole ;)

Hi,

I've been compiling all the Shackletons in a specific area into families and tracked one line out to Harewood.  I collected some info on all the families around there whilst I was at it.  It was actually Christopher and Jane that I was following, but found some info on William and Sarah in passing.
