I would be confident that this is the correct family

The 1846 Slater's Directory for Bagenalstown has a Thomas Aylward listed under Painters

Hi Tara,

Thanks for these very useful links........is it unusual not to find a birth record for Robert?

What should my next step be.......drop down to Bagenalstown and do some research there?

Hi There

As Robert was born pre 1864 you won't get a birth record for him, it's baptismal records that you are looking for.

There are a number of reasons why Robert's and Benjamin's baptisms could be missing - they could have been mistranscribed or may not have been transcribed at all due to illegibility.

Given all the other leads though I would be sure that it is one and the same family.

You may glean some bits from this !

I would just suggest too that you post this thread link to the Carlow board as you are now looking for people in that area !
