Could it be RINGER ? A maker of rings . Not the jewellry type . Also wouldn`t the occupation be written using a capital letter ? Graham .

It certainly looks like HINGER - how about Hinger = person who makes (or fits) hinges ?

Hello Everyone,
Again many thanks for all your answers, I have others for this couple - one has the same occupation (hinger) the other no occupation, I've still need to get 2 birth certs to complete that lot.

Regards Nanafos

Hi Nanafos

Have you followed through any of the children of Robert and Margaret past the start of official registration in 1855 to see what occupation shows for their father (we are likely talking about their death certs here)?

No, Monica haven't done that, Kirkintilloch records are a bit lacking in some years so it's great to get what we can, but I'll certainly try that avenue, thanks

Which of their children are you following through? Is it Margaret given you have her OPR birth/christening entry? If so, who did she marry?

To me it looks like it may be ;- hingin. Being in Scotland that still leaves you looking for what is being hung.

The first letter of the word looks like a t--- tinger?

Compare it with the t on the line above at the end of Margaret ,it starts shorter but is formed very much the same.
Anything to to with dying or tinting I wonder.Viktoria

Hi everyone,
Many thanks, I'll get another cert & see what it says, in the meantime here is another child's one - it certainly looks to me as hinger.
