Hi Anne,

Hope you are well  :)

Could the word be BARONY?

This is from Genuki...

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/AYR/Maybole/index.html

Maybole was the historic capital of Carrick and has been a Burgh of Barony since 1516. The town is now a sleepy old market town with a former reputation for the manufacture of boots and shoes. Nearby is the ruined abbey of Crossraguel.

Just a thought?  As Maybole is a parish in itself.

Pam

Thankyou Pam,i think you are right,i have probably misspelt it.That means i wont be able to find the address they were living, although i think its probably Mason Row as thats where he died in1874.I have just found his death details but it said he was a widower when he died at Mason Row but i cant find his wifes death,i thought maybe they were living at another address when she died.Never mind thankyou anyway Pam.Anne.

Ballony is located just to the south west of Maybole .. follow Masons Row out past an area known as "The Bog" and you come to Ballony.

If you go to the Maybole website ... on the lower right hand side of the home page .. there is a map from 1856-7 which you can click on and you will find Ballony at the very bottom of the page ...

Here is the link to the Maybole website ...
