Dear lasota,

Unfortunately, even though I did look - like you I only found Daniel in 1871/81 and 91 (Sorry, I did look and even though there are a few possibilities I didn't find anything positive  :().

You may already have the following information (but just in-case you haven't):

Meredith POWELL and a Daniel POWELL were both baptised on the same day at Llanwrthwl Church,
on 10th October 1869.
father shown as John POWELL (farmer) no mother's name was shown
Address at time of baptism:  Caeshack, Llanwrthwl.

It's strange why Mary wasn't named on the baptism, as I saw that Mary was a widow by 1871 and living at Caeshack, Llanwrthwl and had re-married by 1881.

Sorry, I couldn't help anymore, but I will look again.

Regards, Alltcafan  :)

Can I assume that the 1891 census for Daniel is where his age is given incorrectly as 1872 (I cannot find any other likely birth for a Daniel in the area at that time).

I also cannot find him on any census, military or passenger list.  However there are 3 deaths for a Daniel Powell betwen 1891 & 1901.

1. Sept 1891 at Pontardawe age 24 - 1867 - however there is a possible birth in Swansea Dec 1867
2. Dec 1898 at Bedwellty age 32 - 1866 - again there is a possible births Pontypool & Newport 1866

However there is also:

3. March 1892 at Pontypridd age 23 - 1869 - no local births for that time.

No reason why he should be in Pontypridd at that time but he must be somewhere?

If a death can be eliminated then other searches can be carried out.

thanks for the reply. I am still at a brick wall here and can find no reason for this daniel to leave this area especially at such a young age. the main area all this family were in and stayed in is Rhayader and Llanwrythl but thanks for your research it will give me something to investigate and maybe a clue will be found
