It looks to me as though the Kitchener part started off as a middle name with the baptism of William Kitchener Goodwyn in 1821, the son of Hannah Goodwyn. It seems as though he was illegitimate and Hannah may have been giving a broad hint as to who the father was.

You're correct there my friend..The deserter was William Kitchener from Hinxworth who married a Frances Sole instead !..Hannah went on to marry Edward Albon..

Just noticed I have Albert Goodwin, baptised 1861, son of William Kitchener Goodwin, in my tree. He married my 2nd cousin 4 times removed, Ann Eliza Topham in West Ham in 1885. They had children in Arlesey, West Ham, and somewhere between 1901 and 1911 they moved to Letchworth, where I lived for many years

hi Guys

I just joined Rootschat tonight and noticed this conversation. William Kitchener and Hannah Goodwin were my 4x great grandparents. Their son, William KG, had a son, George KG, who had a son, William George KG, who had my grandfather, William Levi KG, who had my father, Ronald Goodwin, who had me - Paul Goodwin. I was born in Hitchen Hospital and lived with my parents in Letchworth until i moved away to go to university in 1981. I have been researching our family tree for just over a year now and am keen to contact and find out move about other 'Kitchener-Goodwin' descendents.

Hello,
I hope you don't mind me reaching out on this thread - just wanted to say THANK YOU for the info to help solve the riddle as to why the Kitchener name as a middle name/surname in the Goodwin line :) (feels like Ive  scratched an itch to finally know the reason!)
If anyone is interested in sharing or comparing research/photos our family line from the Kitchener/Goodwins is as follows:
William Kitchener (1797 - 1879) & Hannah Goodwyn had son William Goodwin (1821 - 1904) who had a son George Kitchener Goodwin (1848 - 1937) who married Susannah Brown (1849 - 1930) and together they had a daughter named Emily Louisa Goodwin (1879 - 1959) and Emily Louisa Married John Edward Gear Blee and they relocated from Arlesey in 1912 to Queensland Australia and that is where our line changes to Blee. If anyone would like to compare or share research please reach out on this forum :)  Regards, Jade
