Try calling Chelmsford Records they have pub licence books in there reference section,maybe your pub will be in there it will tell you how long they held the pub and if it changed it's name,it is a easy look up should not take them long.

Thank you  all for answering my questions - the answers are often obvious but not if you weren't born or brought up in the UK and struggle to workout the system from afar.
