My Gt Grandmother doest exist until she's 28!
« on: Wednesday 31 October 12 21:30 GMT (UK) »
Please can anyone point out where I am going wrong.
I have been trying to trace my Gt Grandmother born EMMA NEALE in Brimington in 1863. She married George Leader, and then went on to marry Willian Rice. I know from her Marriage to George Leader that her fathers name was James Neale, but all my searches back never show a James Neale with a daughter named Emma! I do know tha she remaned in Brimington all of her life, until she died in October 1959.

Really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Hi Derek

You actually only know that she said her fathers name was James Neale!   :)

There are many instances (including one in my own family) of illegitimate people 'inventing' a father to put on a marriage certificate

Do you have the names of the witnesses, who may have been related?  Any clues in subsequent censuses?

If you tell us what you have already found, we might be able to help

Hi Derek

Do you have her birth certificate or baptism record? I can't find an Emma Neale in the GRO Index for that year, or for 5 years either side.

There is an Elizabeth Neale, born 1863 in Brimington, daughter of a James, on the 1871 census. Is there any chance that she changed her name  :-\ I know it sounds like a long shot, but it is a possibility.
Best wishes, Judy :-))
