Two Gideon Grisdales in Canada

I've been researching the story of two Gideon Grisdales in Canada but there is much yet to discover:

Regarding Gideon Junior:

Where and when did he die?
Does the 1901 Census really say he was with the "Ontario Police"?

Any trace of Gideon Snr in 1871?

I'd be grateful for any help.

Gideon looks like he is in Thorold, Welland, Ontario in 1871, but spelt as "Guidean".

No children added other than the ones you have already.  It confirms his wife Margaret was Irish and he was a carpenter by profession

Do you mean 1891 as him being in the Ontario Police (it does say it as his occupation in 1891)?  I can't see him in 1901 and Margaret is living as a widow with their son William and his family in 1901. 

Margaret dies of acute Bright's Disease on 8 November 1901 and she is said to be a widow then

definitely says it...bit of a jump from a carpenter, but it could well have been his military background that put him in that direction

age 86, b. about 1803, England

23 September 1889, Wainfleet, Welland, Ontario
age 85, b. about 1804, England

If you go to the above site, choose Canada and then go to Ontario deaths, you will find deaths for his children and  possibly grandchildren. I did a basic search with just Gideon and Grisdale and lots came up. You can also search for marriage, baptism, census, etc. at this site.

There are several other deaths listed including William Grisdale, Gideon Chatfield Grisdale, Frederick's baby daughter, a Robert just to name a few.
