UKgirl

Thank you UKgirl but It is just something I enjoy doing  :-[ . I am still working on the St Marys project, just waiting the OK to start

Heres a question for the forum.
Looking at the photo with George Saxon as the first burial, 14 people had been buried in the space of 6 weeks in the same plot.

How deep must the grave have been? and was the grave back filled after each burial to ground level? only to be uncovered a couple of days later.

This site has 100's of paupers graves just like this one, sad to think it but a grave diggers job in them times must have been very secure.

Regards
Ken

I don't know how deep the grave goes or how wide but when i was asking about the plot the lady in the cemetery offices did say it was a very full grave so perhaps there are more in there but just not on the head stone?

Don't know how you would find out tho...and yes there is nothing so sure in this life than death..so a grave diggers job even now is very secure but may be a bit easier with the oncomings of diggers etc.

Thankyou

Hi Ken

I have yet another few  questions for you, I have found that Sarah Logan had children that died, was St Josephs cemetery the only Catholic cemetery? as iI want to start looking for these children, so would you say that they would possibly be in the same cemetery as their mother? The family seem to originate in an around Broughton is this near the cemetery?

regards

Hi TraceyAustin

Broughton is only a few miles from Moston. They could be buried in a number of sites mostly council run sites - Blackley,Weaste,Harpurhey, Philips Park,Agecroft.

Try here for burials in Blackley/Harpurhey & Philips Park http://www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk/

Agecroft looks after Weaste and these are located in Salford.

But first try St Josephs when you get there details.

Is this the Manchester General Cemetery? If so the burial records at Blackley should show you the burial depths.
