Hi,

Not sure if these will help you.

There was a marriage between a Joseph Middleton & Ann Smith in Parish Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Sheffield in 1811.

I can't find a 1791 baptism for possibly the above Joseph M

However there was a marriage between a Joseph Middleton & Lydia Norton on 25th December 1787 in the above church followed by:

Baptism of a George Middleton on 18th January 1789 , son of Joseph & Lydia.

Not quite 13 months after the marriage so would say this was the eldest child. So Joseph could have been the 2nd born child in 1791, needs his baptism record to confirm that

Joseph senior's occupation is shown as Cutler.

Hi,

In 1841 Joseph and Ann Middleton were both aged 50 years. The problem with this - on this particular census the ages were rounded down to the nearest five years. As a consequence Joseph might have been born much sooner, for example as early as 1787.

Could this be the widowed Joseph, in 1851 :

1851 census :
HO107/2342, Folio 125, Page 13

Yorkshire, Brightside Bierlow
Fitzalan Street

Joseph Middleton, h, wdr, 64, Silver Plater, b. Yorks, Sheffield
Elizabeth Oates, serv, 26, unm, Domestic Servant, b. Yorks, Sheffield

If it's the right one - his birth date would be circa 1787.

It could then bring this into the equation :

Christening : 2nd July 1786
Joseph Middleton
Parents : George and Ann Middleton
St Peter's Cathedral, Sheffield.

Hi Pels

I am in agreement with your research.  To add to it -the marriage between George Middleton & Ann Denton in 1781 in  St. Peter's Church, Sheffield, they could be the parents of Joseph born 1786
I do think it's  possible that the above George & Joseph who married Lydia Norton could be brothers.

But abarter has not returned  to  say  what they think.

Regards
