Canadian Immigration List 1910
« on: Saturday 10 November 12 17:26 GMT (UK) »
George Jakson, b. 1877, Stretton, Derbyshire, Married laborer going to Canada I beleive in early [varifiable date: 1910]. There are 6 G jacksons in the UK departures for 1910. Only 1 is early. S.S. Grupion, Mar 22 from Liverpool to St. Johns, 21 days expected.
Ancestor.com says not such person. Sure, he must have flown Canadian Air!
The Canadian Passenger List would give me a lot of details. He is in Nanaimo in the 1911 Census, so he arrived alive.
    ANY HELP, PLEASE?

One to bear in mind - According to a family tree entry for a George Jackson 1876 which is giving the same date of death 2 July 1965, it states he had a daughter Hannah Mary Jackson who married Lesley Alexander Bagley 1 December 1934 in Nanaimo. Hannah Mary Bagley died 4 th December 2003

Obituary 16 th December 2003 - http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CANADA-OBITS/2003-12/1070732557

Images of passenger lists on the Canadian archives:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/index-e.html

Probably the ship was the Grampian?
George Jackson on that ship is on page 26 - aged 44, headed I think to Saskatchewan, marked as farm labourer and religion Wesleyan.

Did you look for him coming in through US ports?

Good God, Sandra, you are a miracle that cut the Gordian Knot. You, of course, confuse some things about his relatives and names, not knowing any background of this illegitimate "brother" that was really my great-grandfather's grandson. Hannah Bagley I knew, naming 1 daughter after my mother, and told me her father's biography...Yukon gold Rush, 1/2 Indian wife, gold presents [my daughter has his return to England gold brooch to female Jacksons via Thirza to my mother, etc.] It's a very long story. But, Hannah Bagley didn't know much about her mother's background. Censuses, etc. told little. So, as I was finishing  my 100-page genealogy essay, I thought of the List, never imagining that younger Geo. went to the US first?
After all, I'm 80 now and it's time to quit. But, Sandra, I am so grateful. I'll start to look at you citation in the a.m. If you are interested, I'll send you those Jackson pages later via e-mail if you send me your e-mail address. If not, many thanks.

Many thanks for your suggestions. As you can see above, Sandra really nailed him, a distant cousin of mine. He was 34 not 44. Again, many thanks.

Hi Boscoe, (and woof woof Bosco  ;D)

Just a few small snippets before I dispose of my notes. Did have a quick look at UK Census yesterday and noticed George was described as grandson on the 1881 census but spent more time looking for the elusive passenger lists. According to the 1911 census with George and Mary in Nanaimo, George had immigrated 1907 and Mary in 1910, knowing that didn't help trace them on a passenger list either. Some of the earlier lists do not give very much details when you are trying to identify someone.
Came across alot more information on the Roworth family, including the daughters.
Margaret Roworth/Wickens was in California for the 1930 and 1940 census

1930 - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XCX3-KQM

1940 - showed the couple with a son - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K9ZL-FindMyPast

Margaret died in Sequim. Washington 29th April 1996

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/Record/View/14F9B162AFBEA838D8035A3717C867AD

Husband James had died 15th September 1997

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/Record/View/92FCADF6A3C1D98BE36E0A9FE836E707

Interestingly there was a UK return passenger list in 1959 which showed the son and his wife visiting in Reading England.  If you check white pages you will find that son, wife and other family living in California.

The other daughter Ellen married Henry Frederick Jarvis 14 April 1920 in Victoria. British Columbia.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JDDQ-GYC

Henry died 29 June 1970 Victoria. British Columbia

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FLYN-DZJ

There was a death of a George Hugh Jackson in Northfield. Nanaimo. British Columbia  29 October 1967 (Born 9 September 1915 Northfield. British Columbia, I did wonder if this was the son of George Jackson and Mary Ann Bamford  ??? Never got any further with that investigation though)
