Hi

Not seeing number 25 but at number 24 was a Pharmacy run by George COX?

There was also a Milliner, a Draper, a Gentleman's Outfitter, but not sure about a theatre yet. Will keep looking.

Does that help?

Thanks John so no one lived there, in occupation does that mean they are used for shops or business's?if so would you be able to say what for,was it the hat trade?is there anything showing on the 1911 census?any info helpful.
Thanks.

There is no other info on the entry - to tell you anything else about the property.

To me it suggests that the property was being lived in but nobody was home at the time of the census.

On 1911 census there are no odd number properties in Wellington Street before no 31

I do have the Luton Year books for 1911 & 1917 at home, but I am now away for the weekend - I will take a look on Monday.

Kelly's Directory 1902 lists John Webdale and Sons, Established 1838, 'The Cheapest House in the Town or County for Household Furniture'  21,23 and 25 Wellington Street, Luton (opposite Peel Street) Telephone 41.

Kelly's Directory 1903 lists John Webdale and Sons at the same address with 'Birmingham and Sheffield Warehousemen'

Wellington Street was the main shopping centre for Luton until the early 20thC.

Wellington Cinema opened in Wellington Street in 1912 'showing a Saturday Matinee' - no other information listed.

Hope this is of help
Regards
Marian
