Everton Brow 1911, hospital , workhouse ?
« on: Thursday 15 November 12 15:24 GMT (UK) »
What was this place, can anyone help please.

46a & 44a Everton Brow
I have a Georgina Gray 34 b Liverpool in 1911. She is an undermatron.
This is not a `normal` houshold, going back a few pages there are all females and  many have occupations , but I can`t find any information on what the place was.

Going forward to page 15 , the occupier of that adress is Kezia Douglas , 44 46 Everton Brow.
On to page 16 and it is an ordinary census page for a family.

Thanks

i think the even numbers on the brow belonged to the properties facing the river, may be wrong!  there was certainly many large old buildings that were utilised for all manner of uses.  there was a doss house, i think it was called the 'unique'  a police station that was the original police training college, later became the police stores.  a dance academy, notre dame college or convent not sure which,  very possibly there may have been a hospital.

i think if some kind soul has a local gores directory and does a swift look up, you will get a result.

Thats interesting , so presumably Georgina Gray was on the staff and not a `woman in need`

I know she was wealthy enough to place a headstone on her parents grave  :)

Thanks.

I have a relative on the 1901 Census listed as being an Inmate at 71 Everton Brow, do you have any idea as to what the building was? I would be grateful for any help.

I have traced a relative who lived at 45 Everton Brow in 1912.  The census shows 40+ females, mainly widows, mainly elderly.  Does anyone know what type of establishment this was?
