How sure are you of the 1858 hate ?

There is only one birth registration in that area with that name anywhere near that date and it is in 1855

Births Jun 1855
King  George     Maidstone  2a 384
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

I think he's likely George King SAGE Jun Qtr  1857 Hollingbourn 2a    432.

Looks like his parents didn't marry until later.

Hi,

A church will only have a register of baptisms, not births.   Birth certificates are available from the GRO or the relevant local Register Office; cost £9.25 from GRO and, I think, £10 from local office.
