Hello Kev B,

There was no Civil Registration at the time of William's birth. Compulsory civil registration of non-Roman Catholic marriages began on April 1st, 1845 and the registration of births, deaths and all marriages commenced on January 1st, 1864.

I've linked the threads below to this one ...

arrival of HENNESSEY and GALVIN
GALVIN, Bridget on the Donegal board.
lookup Bridget GALVIN on the Cavan board

Thanks Michael - looks like you enjoyed St. Patrick's at Bunratty!
We enjoyed my wife's birthday there last year, 4/9/07, with lots of merriment and fun!
I'm having real trouble identifying when William and Bridget emigrated to Australia. They married, 1866, in Rockhampton, Q'ld., Australia, but no idea how or when they got there!

Have you tried looking for William's death certificate and marriage certificate, if any, for clues about Ireland? To look for church records you will need to know where they lived in Ireland (parish of not townland not just the county).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Paddy,

genuki.org.uk contains a description of Stoneyford in which was published Samuel Lewis'
"A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland"
of 1837. Lewis refers to "a neat R. C. chapel" in
the village.
