Hi Avotier

I found this record on Ancestry (its not free, but you can get a free 14 day trial)

This gives a school records for Sidney H and sibling Nellie M -admission to Haverstock Hill School 2.4.1900, previous school Brecknock, father Henry James, add 1 Truro St, dobs 4.9.188x and 15.6.188x (final digit is in the fold of the page)

you are welcome  :)

also on that site is the 1911 census which shows Sidney (married) with his regiment. Sad to think few of those young men on the page came home. You can find out more about what the different battalions did here
http://www.1914-1918.net/scotrif.htm

If you post a message on the great war forum, giving as much detail as possible about his miltary record, someone there will be able to tell you which battle he died in-quite a few have access to details records and photos too
