Will.O. Pilkinton was born 1843/4 in Gravesend, Kent son of John P. and Sarah (nee Biggs).  He is the youngest brother of my g.g.grandmother, Sarah Blandford (nee Pilkinton).  My problem is this- he appear on 1851 and 1861 census living with parents, and then disappears. Yesterday, quite by accident I found him on 1911 census as Pilkington.  There are no other William Owen's, so this must be him. I think I have also found him on 1891- but just as William Pilkington.  This family has lost so many of its children. Did he emigrate, and then return, or what happened to him??  Because Sarah appears to have been an inmate of Leavesden from 1869 until 1917 I am trying to find any descendants of her siblings who may be able to shed some light on her fate.  You have helped me before, so here's hoping someone can do so again.

So the 1911 census entry you found looks good and so does the 1891 because the occupation is the same.
No birthplace given for his wife Emma age 37 in 1891. Bah!

In the 1911 census he says he is a widower but I can't find a marriage yet.

How about this? Occupation good but birth place out. Did the enumerator mix up Emma and William's birth places?

William's age out but as he is a good bit older than Emma in 1891 he may have dropped some years?

I like the 1881 information. He was probably asked "where are you from?" not "where were you born?" and answered with the place he was living at prior to being in Gloucestershire.

I tried looking for the death of Emma too but couldn't find that either.

Hi everyone, Thanks, you've done it again.  I, too, like the 1881- it is a fairly obscure occupation, so likely to be the same man. Can't find a marriage, either.  I did have the death, also can't find a death for Emma??
Looks like they may not have had children.

so ...maybe the census had his age out by 2 years.....by any chance have you come across the surname WAIN in your research ?

this child Charles Pilkington b 1878 England mother Emma E Wain...let`s see if we can find his birth and also Emma E Wain birth...and see where they were born ?

In 1920 Charles Pilkington is in Providence ,Rhode Island .....mother Emma E Wain ...

and...Dartford where Emma was born - Gravesend where William Owen Pilkington was born ...both in Kent and quite close to each other ....food for thought ?
