Christian Maclaurin - 1856
« on: Tuesday 31 May 05 16:16 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have got an old bible with the following handwritten dedication;

To

Christian Maclaurin

From her affectionate Father.

Shawlands Manse 1856

Underneath that, and in a different hand and style is written;

John Maclaurin and what looks like the name Robert.

Although the bible is quite fragile when opened the ornate brass fittings and clamp are lovely and still intact and working.

Inside, carefully preserved between the pages I found this wonderful silk bookmark.

Best wishes,Mick ;)

Hi

Sounds like Christian Black Maclaurin, B 26 Mar 1836, F James Cockburn Maclaurin, M Margaret Smith, lived in Shawlands Mance, Eastwood, Renfrewshire from at least 1841 onwards. Had, amongst others, two brothers Robert and John.

Hope you find this interesting.

Colin Maclaurin
