Bombing casualty - Birmingham area 1943
« on: Tuesday 31 May 05 21:34 BST (UK) »
Attempting to trace the circumstances of the death of Lt. Col. Walter Cecil Whiting who died in Q. Eliz. Hospital, Birmingham 28 November 1943 aged 45.  He was o.i.c. of a mobile heavy anti-aircraft unit - lorry mounted artillery - that used to travel around during air raids firing at enemy aircraft to give the impression of a well defended area.  It is thought that he died as the result of injuries sustained as a result of enemy action during such a raid prior to 28 Nov 1943 in the area around Birmingham.  Local newspapers did not report such event for reasons of propaganda.   Anyone any ideas???
