« on: Sunday 02 December 12 03:48 GMT (UK) »
I found reference to a memorial inscription for a Maurice THOMAS in Perranarworthal churchyard on Findmypast website

Is any more detail about this inscription?
I am particularly interested in the approximate year of the inscription
Thanks
Barb

as the info came from CFHS, you could ask them

There's no guarantee that the stone is still there or legible if it is.

A Maurice Thomas and wife Mary Jane baptised a child in Perranarworthal in 1840

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=753250

(private baptism, which unfortunately indicates a child not expected to survive, and the child was buried 4 days later)

Might that be the Maurice you are interested in?

But the only "Mauris" there in 1841 is aged 10, and there doesn't seem to be any further trace of Maurice who was married to Jane, at least in Cornwall.

The inscription itself isn't available from the site.

I am hoping the memorial inscription has some link to the family JaneyCanuck referred to.

Maurice THOMAS  the father of the child baptised in 1840, was also the father of Mauris THOMAS the 10 year old in the 1841 census.  Both Maurice snr & Mauris jnr left Cornwall  before the 1851 census.

The memorial inscription could be for an earlier Maurice THOMAS (the grandfather) whose family moved to Perranarworthal in the 1830s. This Maurice died 9 Dec 1831 (date from Admion papers Jun 1832). I haven't yet been able to find a burial for him in any parish records in Cornwall.

Hi Barb

I had a look in the churchyard & cemetery at Perranarworthal today but have drawn a blank I'm afraid. I couldn't find reference to Maurice Thomas (or any Thomas) but there were a large number of weather beaten stones where the inscriptions have been worn away.

Cheers
Phil
