Arthur Richard Claude Kavanagh
« on: Tuesday 06 July 04 15:33 BST (UK) »
I am looking for info about my great great uncle.   All I know about him is his name and he was in the South Irish Horse Regiment.   He fought in the Boer War and World War 1.  He was gassed in that war.

He married Kathleen Kennedy, who was also from Dublin and had four children, three boys and a girl.   His daughter died from leukaemia.   All I know is that they lived in the Manchester area.

Any info appreciated.

Hi,

Don't know if this is him on the WW1 medal rolls at the PRO:

Description Medal card of Kavanagh, A
Corps Regiment No Rank
Royal Horse Artillery 25049 Gunner
Military Mounted Police P 857614 Gunner
Royal Artillery 727065 Gunner

Date 1914-1920
Catalogue reference WO 372/11

If you think that there is a chance that this may be your man check out http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/magazine/articles/uhf_safrica2.htm which gives surnames of Irish military police in South Africa and mentions the surname Kavanagh.

Also try this site for research into people who fought in the Boer War: http://freespace.virgin.net/anglers.rest/BWInfo.htm

Sasha.
