Hello Everyone,

Thankyou for the tips, one can only learn! I am now having another go using your suggestions.

With regard to the boys hair colour i actually took it off a photo of his great grandson who looks uncannily like him. Thankyou for your go kenhar the face on the woman doesnt seem right at all.  Maybe taking the lines of the face was the problem?

Thanks again,
Holly

Not bad Michael. The eyes seem a bit dark and sunken, but the skin tone is lookig much better.

I would bring more colors into the image. Many times, if just a few colors are used, the coloring has a "dyed" appearance. I would also desaturate the brighter colors.
Here's my try at it.

Vikki

When you colourised did you use normal or colour?
Also do you use fill layers or adjustment layers?
What program are you using?

It gives a superb effect.

Thanks Jane.
I use Photoshop, but it's not really the program one uses, it's how the color is applied, so any program should work. I basically use just 3 colors to colorize. Red, green, and blue.  Here's a tutorial for the technique I use. It's very different from the usual coloring techniques, and it takes some getting use to.

Thanks for the link Vikki, I will try this tomorrow. I hope I can get to your level of expertise. I was using another tutorial from Worth1000, but it was using curves in cmyk. Hopefully your link will produce better  results.
