Newspaper marriage notice in 1871.

Looks like it states that John was formerly of Picardy France!

Great stuff. Thank you all for your efforts! I am new at all this and have been on this character's trail for a while now.

i had already found a ref to St Q being the 'contractor' for the building of the Ebenezer United Prespyterian church  Armstrong St Ballarat when the foundation stone was laid in in 1862. He declared himself insolvent at the end of 1863 - departed for NZ around that time. Any info anyone can dig up on that would be great.

Also he got punched in the eye by an angry Italian drummer at an opera in 1859. :) Drink was involved. Wonder if his brain disease was alcohol related? He was partial to brandy.

So we know he went to Oz between 1851 and 1859. To NZ at end of 1863 and back to Oz before 1875 when he appears on the Sands directory.

Will have to track down Charles. He might have stayed in England of course.

'Formerly of Picardy' would be pretty much in keeping with what I know of St Q but may have been a bit of journalistic license given the town of St Quentin is in Picardy.

Thank you all again.
