A John Colcott St Quentin Esquire, was appointed Adjutant of the Geelong Volunteer Rifles Corps on 8th January 1855.

Gazette Notice 26th April 1855, John Anthony Layard replaced John Colcott St Quentin Esquire whom had resigned.

Yes found that - was quite a to do with all manner of accusations been thrown around. St Q also claims in NZ to have been an experienced digger. Possible that he was on the gold fields?

Found a reference to Mary St Q at school ChCh June 1870; the 'Mrs Miss and Master' who left  on the Albion in November 1870 may have been Sarah Ann, Victor and Mary. Did the other twin die?

Found ref to an anonymous and seemingly threatening letter sent to St Q in Feb 1870. Was that what prompted him to flee NZ?

Strange coincidence in light of the Melbourne connection - the carpenter killed in the steam boat collision in Port Chalmers in 1863 had been employed by St Q in Ballarat; the boat's name was the Pride of the Yarra.

Hmm he'd have actually been 52 - might have wanted to turn the clock back.

Which is likely with the age difference between him and the new wife ELIZABETH :-X

Indeed - more than old enough to be her father. By all accounts he was a charisimatic and good looking man but even so she was 12 years younger than his oldest son!

Speaking of whom - "Feb 5th 1886 Montague Street South Brisbane the wife of WC Quinton Esq of a son" -  would have been 49 if St Q's son.

Might not be him but spelling same as earlier family records and he may not have reinvented himself as a St Quentin.

John Alfred Ernest St Quentin married Mary Ann Emerson in New Zealand in 1870.
1870/7665

They may have come back to Australia.
