Hi Annette7.
I think i have found the problem ,i am looking at original entries on family search, the way to go is
Family search,
scroll down ,select united kingdom and ireland.
scroll down ,select cornwall 1538?-??
scroll down select browse 202.000?? images .
scroll down ,select redruth.
select redruth files 1719-1749 BMDs ,go to image  70 is start of babt,s 1743/4 .
There are no STEPHEN COCKING,s in 1744,
Hope we can solve this one ,

Hi there

I think the entry for Stephen can be found by selecting United Kingdom & Ireland on the home page of familysearch, then England Births & Christenings 1538 - 1975, the entry appears as Stephen Cocking 19 Oct 1744 Redruth parents William & Mary, source Parish Registers and Bishops Transcripts Parish Church Redruth,  Not unusual for  parish registers and bishops transcripts to be different.

I'm using the new familysearch.

On the very first search screen that comes up just enter surname as Teague, click on birth - brings up a box for birthplace and enter Redruth, Cornwall and tick the match exactly box - I originally put in date range 1740 to 1750 (as Lulalia bc.1744) and the obvious entry for her was one that came up showing parentgs as William and Martha.    I then amended the search under Teague to show parents as William and Martha and took out all dates.   This brought up her again with her various siblings.

I then did exactly the same search for Stephen Cocking assuming he was born in the same time frame.

Much simpler doing it this way - if you scroll down to United Kingdom and Ireland and so on it is a) more time consuming and b) doesn't always come up with results you seek for some reason.

I always search this way as not many counties actually have the original records on familysearch (although one I do look at is Norfolk which is pretty good).
Searching this way you don't have to be so specific - you can just enter the county or even just the country if not much is known.   However, I advise you to always tick the match exactly box otherwise you end up with lots of US entries.

Hopefully you can now find them all as I did.

hi everyone.
yes that works fine ,the only thing i can add is i love to see the original doc,s ,it is time consuming ,let me explain my own research ,some years ago i was looking for my GR<GR<GR<GR<GR<Grandfather and spent month,s working on a name from family search ,only to find when i got a bit more experience i was totally on the wrong track even the birthdate was wrong ,1763 and should have been 1752,i am still today looking for this man ,s birth place ,but i live in Hampshire and my ancestors came from Sheffield and lancashire ,i have proven all other,s from 1752 using the family search ,looking through original script,s ,i shall i,m sure find him one day ,i should also add i do volunteer genealogy at our local age concern tuesday,s and friday,s ,hence my interest in so many name,s .
Again my thanks to you all Arry

Hi again

I suspect we have all been there following the wrong line, and wherever possible it's always best to go back to original documents, there is sometimes just a little clue that you are on track - or completely off it! Familysearch gives you a good starting point and certainly later records can have that bit more information but you can't use it just on it's own. Good luck with your research.
