Rochdale Union Workhouse

I need information from the admission/discharge registers of this workhouse for c1885. I have tried the Lancs record office but they could not help. Does anyone know if they still exist anywhere? Thanks Thelma

Try contacting "Touchstones" the local history place at Rochdale.
If anyone knows, then it should be them.

Hi Thelma,

There is some info. on Lancashire workhouses on this site. If you look at the beginning of the 'Lancashire forum' or in 'Lancashire Resources' there is a site listed under 'Lancashire Institutions' which lists Workhouses and gives you access to the sites of some of them.

Also you can look at the census for 1881 and 1891 as people in workhouses were included in the census and if you have a name you might find them there.
