A Chancery Court is a court of equity that has existed since the 14thc It became the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice in 1875 and still exists to this day. It seeks to balance the evidence and give a verdict on what it sees as just and fiar. It is thus a civil and not criminal court
TNA under C (for Chancery) 42 (for Early Proceedings 1386-1558) and the remainder after that dated under 42.
Check under all variant names – spelling issues
The early series is indexed by both name and subject, the more recent ones are not.
The earlier ones will be found in their entirety, the later series is less well organised but still includes a wealth of information. The problem is that the 3 parts of the case, pleading, evidence and decision will probably be filed n different parts of the collection. They are archived only by a short title which characteristically the name only of the first plaintiff and the first respondent. (Research guide 22 (TNA) has info. about the existing searchable indexes of later Chancery proceedings)
The Chancery Records are not currently included in the DocumentsOnline section , but use the Search the Catalouge facility.
If the name you enter comes up in the cat. search it will be part of a comprehensive description of the suit with names and location. This is a link so click on it for more detail. It is then up to you to decide if you want a copy if so click request this and it can be sent to you the same day in JPEG format for £8.50 (as per April 2008) or you can ask for a quotation to receive it by post.   The earlier records 1386-1558 are available on ancestry under British Chancery Records 1386-1558 however it only provides the name period and location by county and not the specific details of TNA but it does provide a specific reference.
The disputes may encourage us to look up the manorial records , copyhold records , witnesses deposition and bankruptcy records.
