Margaret Edwards,Froncysyllte.
« on: Tuesday 18 December 12 12:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi.I wonder if anyone out there could do a look-up for me.Im looking for a Margaret Edwards born at Froncysyllte,Llangollen around 1837.Her parents were John and Elizabeth.Margaret married in 1859 and on the certificate it states her Father as being John Edwards.I did find a census for Cysyllte 1841 in a folder at Llangollen museum when i was on holiday there but not been able to find it since.I cant find her or her parents in 1851 either.Regards.Cashmere.

1841 census: HO107, Piece 1400, Book 9, Folio 4, Page 1
Cysyllte, Llangollen

Edwards, John  M  50  Farmer
Edwards, Elizabeth  F  35
Edwards, George  M  10
Edwards, Elizabeth  F  5
Edwards, Ann  F  5
Edwards, Margaret  F  4
Edwards, John  M  1                        all born in county

Ages were, on the 1841 census, rounded down to a multiple of 5 years.
Supposed to be for those over 15?!

So, the mother Elizabeth could be any age from 35 to 39.
And the age on the 1851 census could be wrong?

Hi, I thought I'd add a note as I'm descended from Edwards family in Froncysyllte, though in my case it's the family of Edward Edwards (1803-1873) and his wife Sarah, through their son Charles (1829-1897). They were all boatmen working on the canal, and lived in Sion Cottages near the boarding school.

It's possible we have a connection somewhere along the line, Froncysyllte is a small community! However tracing Welsh family beyond 1841 is a tough challenge! You may have trouble finding an 1861 census record - I read somewhere that the 1861 returns for Froncysyllte have been lost.

Hi John.
Many thanks for your message. There could be a connection with Froncysyllte being such a small village.Margaret Edwards was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Edwards.John was a farmer and he lived and brought up his family at Cysyllte Farm which is now Fron House. His daughter Margaret married a John Lewis of Llangadwalladr,Denbighshire. Not far from Llangollen.John and Margaret were the Gt,gt Grandparents of my husband.
Regards.
