SCOTT family Londonderry
« on: Wednesday 19 December 12 06:52 GMT (UK) »
On the LDS site I was excited to find the birth transcript of Gt G/father of my wife
John Waring Scott B 21 Sept 1864... 0699 Bellaghy son of William and Isabella SCOTT nee FRENCH....To get to the point, I thought that to look for parents marriage would make sense!!! but have found two transcripts.
   1. William SCOTT and Isabella FRENCH 7 Oct 1854 in Maghera.
   2.     "          "                    "           "      17 May 1853 Ballymena. Ant.
The only other way the entries differ is the name of the grooms father, Adam or Edward.
Is there anyone out there who could suggest my next step to find which entry is correct???
      Regards Mike.

I'd order both certs to see if William's address and occupation matched the information in the son's John's birth cert.

Hi,
The marriage took place in Maghera Church of Ireland. From Aghadowey's link you will find that William Scott is described as a farmer as is his father Adam. Wiliams address is given as TYANEE, P.O. Tamlaght O'Crilly. I think that this is the townland of TYANCE in the parish of Tamlaght O'Crilly.

I'm fairly certain the townland is really Tyanee not Tyance  ;)

Hi,
I think that Aghadowey is correct. It seems that there is an error on the townland search site http://www.thecore.com/seanruad

Sorry about the delay in my reply, but have been offline for a few days. I did try to respond earlier but Roots chat was doing some updates and then I forgot my password!!!!
Many thanks for your responses, I did find that Maghera website to be full of real good information.
Kingskerswell. Aghadowey and Elwyn Soutter you have helped me take another step on this wonderful adventure, you are the best. Regards Mike..

I'm new to this thread. Is anyone aware of a marriage (or other) relationship between the Scott family and either the Henry family or the Downing family of Maghera. I'm chasing a DNA trail that I know is associated with my 4th grandparents Robert Henry of Co. Antrim and Elizabeth Shsron Downing (Stafford Downing branch of Dreenan) of Maghera.
I have been working on this for years and only found the Scott family of Maghera today
