Unsure of date of death
« on: Friday 21 December 12 06:15 GMT (UK) »
I'm hoping someone can help with the date of death of my gg-grandmother.  The death was registered on 31 Dec 1912, so I'm guessing that she may have died the previous day, but I just can't get my eyes to read it that way!

Many thanks for any help.

It looks like the 11th to me, but I am not 100% sure of it.  :-\

I'm starting to see Eleventh also, but seems like a long time to register given where she died.

Elizabeth's death certificate states that she is a widow, but in fact her husband is alive and living in South Willesborough, Kent.  He appears on the 1911 census living with their son, and doesn't die until 1920.

As the death was from a lunatic asylum, the 3 weeks indicates that there may have been an inquest.

Who registered the death?  Was it the Coroner's Office?

Well, maybe Norman Sibley was just a slack public servant, with his paperwork?

I see "Eleventh" too.  If it were in the "twenty" range it would have two words (twenty nine for example) but I don't see two words.  The other alternative is the "Thirtieth", but it looks nothing like that to me!

Or perhaps a very conscientious worker  ;)

I should imagine that the Asylum had someone who could authorise a certificate for release of the deceased, and all of the deaths which had occurred were officially registered at the end of the month, or even the quarter.

Does the certificate say that the Informant details were 'As certified by ... ' ??  This would confirm that Norman Sibley did not attend, but sent details of the death along with all the others.

Regards,
Colin
