Bapt. of Seborah DORELL - Wilts ??
« on: Friday 21 December 12 23:46 GMT (UK) »
Happy Xmas to all,

I have been looking for the bapt. of Seborah/Deborah Dorell who married Thomas Dafter in Rodbourne Cheney in 1732.
On the IGI I have come across a possible entry; "https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Adorell~%20%2Bbatch_number%3AI02066-0"
which quotes Dorset & Hampshire QM, England  as her place of birth.

Has anyone come across this type of entry before or can offer an explanation of its meaning, please?

Hi Alan

A google search of the Family Search Batch Number to which you refer takes you to an Archersoftware site. This describes the batch number as "Births" "DOR" "Dorset & Hampshire" "Society of Friends Quarterly Meeting" "1657-1802". It seems that Wilts, Hants & Dorset are all involved  ???

A further google search indicates that the "Society of Friends" = Quakers = Non-conformist.
This is jusy my own bit of research so confirmation is required!

I beleive that the originals are held at the Dorset RO - so perhaps a request on the Dorset board?

Merry Christmas  :)

Hi Vazz,

Thank you kindly for your research. I've continued and ended up at  "The Official Non-Conformist & Non-Parochial BMDs service"  and found the marriage of James as taking place in Hampshire (RG6 1027 recordset) in 1702.  It still doesn't say where in Hants but I think its because the marriage took place in one of their Meeting Houses ??

I will, as you suggest, contact the Dorset RO but after xmas.

May you also have a happy christmas :)

Hi Alan,
Do you think it could possibly be:

Thebara Dowswell d of Robert jun & Mary, 6 Jun 1708, Rodbourne Cheney

It's the right place and it would make her 24 at the time of her marriage  :-\
Thoughts?
