Well, as a Texan who has never visited the land of his grandparents, I am open to suggestions.  Where do you find Possil on a map or other descriptive medium?

Hello -

I would read it as 'Possil' - although there is no cross on any letter 't', none of them has a loop.

TC,  Possil is at 12 o clock from Glasgow city centre, on the Forth & Clyde canal which connects it to Kilsyth. The estate was formerly owned by Sheriff Alison and before that Campbell's, it was in the parish of Maryhill which, strangely enough, was named for the wife of Robert Graham the Laird of Dawsholm.
Glasgow aquired the estate in the 1870's? and it was later laid out as Possilpark.

Skoosh.

PS this map/aerial pic' combo on the same page will let you see what the place looks like nowadays, enter Possil in the searchbox on the map.

Thank you, Stuart, for the 1841 census information.  The Robert Graham listed at High Possil as farmer and coal miner would have been 37 at the time of the inventory of 1828.   I consider that to be a positive ID!  I did not have a birthdate for Robert and could not find him in the census.  He married Alexander Rennie's daughter, Barbara.  The attachment shows the information I have for the family.
