I wonder if you could help me with tracing the family of my great grandfather Patrick O`brien b 1855 ,possibly Kilfinane ,Limerick but not certain .He was married to Helen ( Ellen) Maloney . The only information I have is he was in the 64th Limerick Regiment  1871c. His regiment was amalgamated to an English regiment, then this regiment was sent all over Britain as acting policemen . He married my great grandmother Bridget Gilhooley in 1875 in Dunbar,East Lothian Scotland while still in the army. I presume he was sent to this area . I live in Dunbar . No parents were on the marriage cert. I realise this is an old post, but have just come across it . Appreciate anything you could come up with.

Many thanks
E P

When and where was he married to Helen Maloney.
Born 1855 married Bridget Gilhooley in 1875 when he was 20.

I don`t know the date of their marriage. I think it would be in Limerick. Patrick`s parents are not on death cert, but on marriage cert. They are listed as deceased. My grandfather always said his father Patrick b 1855 was born in Limerick. Bridget`s parents are Michael Gilhooly and Ann McGlynn both born in Ireland ,died in Dunbar, children all born Dunbar . I just don`t have much information on Irish Records. Any census just states Ireland !

Sorry I'm completely confused.
Is there more than one Patrick?
Which one has parent's on the marriage cert and which one has no parent's on marriage cert.

Patrick O`brien b 1855 ,possibly Kilfinane  was married to Helen ( Ellen) Maloney .

He married  Bridget Gilhooley in 1875 in Dunbar, East Lothian Scotland

So which one did he marry first?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Sorry I didn`t make it clearer,

Patrick O`Brien b 1830c ? Ireland (Limerick ?)
m Helen Maloney b 1830 c ?  Ireland (Limerick?)
Don`t know their marriage date or place (Limerick?)
They are listed on their son`s marriage cert.dated 1875 as deceased.

Their son Patrick O`Brien b 1855c Ireland (Limerick?)
married in 1875 to Bridget Gilhooly b 1856 in Dunbar ,East Lothian ,Scotland

Hope this helps
