Try Familysearch.
Lots in Prussia/Germany.

Eg;
Dorothea Phillpina ANDRES, 18 Feb 1772, Evangelisch, Kirn, Reinland, Prussia
Parents, JACOB Andres and SOPHIA ELIZABETHA

As your Julia who Married Ebenezer Mills 1792, Norfolk was named Mary Julia Phillipine Andre possibly a Sister for her?

1841 Census Julia is born c 1771 Foreign Parts, how frustrating.

Trish :)

Hi Trish and thank you for your research.   Yes Julia is my  4 x Gt Grandmother and married my 4 x Gt Grandfather Ebenezer.   She was born in Offenbach, Germany.  You may have hit the nail on the head with his parents.  Ebenezer was born about 1761 in St Faith Norfolk.

Thank you for your advice, I will be acting on it.

As there seem to be connections between the ANDRE and the WIDDER families, I'm cross-linking these topics:

Hi,

i am descended from Jean Baptiste Andre, who was from Champagney France (in Haute Soane, near Belfort).  He was possibly not born in Champagney, but was definitely married there in 1752 and died there in 1804. Although both his marriage record and death records state that he was born in Champagney about 1722, I have not been able to locate him (or any other ANDRE) in Champagney before he showed up there and got married.  In general, the church records in that village are quite complete starting  in the 1690s, so it is rather mysterious as to his origin.
In 1906 my grandfather Eugene Emile Andre immigrated to New York, and eventually moved to Chicago.

Kind regards,

Chas Andre

Hi Chas, my branch of Andres are from Germany (via France).  My 5  xGreat Grandfather was Johanne Andre, Huguenot and composer.   He was a friend of Goethe's.

Their daughter, my 3  x Gt Grandmother Julia Widder Mills seems to remember Major John Andre (he spied for the British in the American Revolutionary War, was executed and his body now lies in Westminster visiting the household, but said he was a distant relative.

Warm Regards

Hi Sparham,

Yes, I remember getting some flak about Major Andre in school (in the U.S. he is known as the facilitator to the traitor Benedict Arnold :)
Champagney is close to the border of both Switzerland and Germany, and it's possible that my branch of the Andres originated from one of those places. They were mostly peasants, and tended to stick around the same cluster of villages in the area, but occasionally somebody would marry into the family form Germany or elsewhere.
At least by the late 17th century, all my ancestors were Roman Catholic, but it's impossible to say what they might have been up to before that.... they would not have had the resources to emigrate and could have been forced to convert, as many were in that era.  On the other hand, I have no evidence that my ancestors were anything but Catholics.
I know there is a DNA ancestry group for people with French origins, but I think they have only a few Andres enrolled, so I'm not sure if having my Y-DNA tested would provide any useful info.

Kind regards,

Chas
