« on: Wednesday 26 December 12 09:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
Trying to find Diffwys Terrace in the 1891 census.

Auntie Mary Jones born 1890 Ffestiniog is back in Llanrwst in 1891 with her mother and siblings but her father Thomas Jones, a tailor and draper isnt there, maybe he is still at Diffwys Terrace?
What district folio etc is Diffwys Terrace in please?

Hi William
Auntie Mary gave her address as 2 Lloyds Terrace Llanrwst when she md Wm John Jones 1909
I have a photo with that address on which I had missed as it had been in an album.
I also have a birth cert for her brother David Jones b.1878 Scotland St.

1881 has them in Scotland St
Thomas Jones 32 Tailor b Llanrwst Tafarn Fedw (I think he was b. Talybont Caerhun)
Elizabeth wife 29 b Tafarn Fedw nee Williams
dau Elizabeth 8, son David 'Taid' Jones 3 and son Thomas Jones aged 6 months

The 1891 for Scotland St Llanrwst shows
Elizabth married 38, occ charwoman
David 14, Thomas 10, John son 1 (not 6?) and dau Mary 10m (Aunite Mary).

The father/husband Thomas by now 42 a tailor is not there and neither is the eldest dau Elizabeth by now 18.  It doesnt say widow for his wife you see.

I knew Auntie Mary as she d.1983, I also knew Taid David Jones who died mid 1960s and 'Uncle Jack' John Jones.  Mary remarried David Hughes and lived in Glan Conway after leaving LL Junction where she lost her first husband and daugther Gwennie d.age 13.

David Jones md Grace Jones and lived Conway then his later life in Llandudno Junction and Jack lived in Corwen md to Emily Roberts.  I am now expanding all this research on these Jones' lines and I have done quite bit this Xmas.

I didnt know the older sister Elizaberh as far as I recall or their brother Thomas.
Wonder what happened to them?  Probably with their surname may never know!

When the parents Thomas and Elizabeth Williams md they said they were tea dealers.
Mary's 1890 birth cert states her father Thomas was a Tailor and Draper and gave the Diffwys Terrace address, census however just says he was a Tailor (perhaps enumerators shorthand!).

The 1911 is interesting too when looking at 1 and 2 Lloyds Terrace< Llanrwst as No.2 shows the mother Elizabeth and son John (this may be them living next door) to No.1 Wm John Jones and Mary (he definately he was a postman).  Elizabeth however is now 69 and has aged 10 yrs!

I'm afraid Thomas Jones isn't showing too readily at all in 1891.

It now appears that Diffwys was a version of spelling Diphwys also termed Duffws.
Do you have details in the index for Duffws Terrace perhaps?
