William Sims (Simms), brewer's labourer, born Ham, Surrey c1808 according to 1851 census.  Can anyone suggest where he may have been baptised please?

Thank you.

On FreeREG there is a William Simms b 6/3/1804 bap 1/4/1804 Thames Ditton-father William mother Mary. There are 4 other siblings there as well. Don't know how far Thames Ditton is from Ham.

Thanks.

Have found a promising baptism on IGI for William Sims at Mortlake in 1808 and another at Richmond in 1808.  Not sure which would be more likely.

There is a William Simms as a servant (single)living in Mortlake bn Mortlake in 1861 who could eliminate one of those two.  ;)

I note that Williams son Frederick was born in Ham, his christening is on familysearch at Ham.
Frederick George Sims
baptism 12 April 1835
place    Ham, Surrey
father William Sims
mother Elizabeth
batch number   I04499-0
source film number    2232877

Ham records for the period you are looking at don't seem to be on familysearch. Have you checked whether there are records available for Ham at that time.  :-\

Hi Rosie

Thanks for the reply. Frederick George Sims is definitely a son of the William I am looking for. I am not sure where to look to find out about available records.

Hi

There is a web page for St Andrews http://www.standrews.btck.co.uk/

I wonder how old the church in Ham is.  :-\

GenUKI says:
HAM, (or Ham-with-hatch), a village and district parish in the parish of Kingston-upon-Thames, county Surrey, 2 miles N. of Kingston. It is situated on the Thames near Richmond Park. The church, which is dedicated to St. Andrew, stands on the common. The register dates from 1832, when the church was built.

So could be either Kingston-Upon-Thames or Richmond.
Records are held at the Surrey History Centre, Woking:

Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

I did wonder if it was a relatively new church when I looked at the website which then links to Surrey H.C with only records from the 1830's.

In which case the Richmond christening on familysearch Quaygar found looks favourable
