Dawn, if you haven't read "Old Convict Days" you can access it on line, or you can purchase a copy through Amazon or some such. I've spent a couple of months going through it with a fine tooth comb and correlating it with independent material. For the most part the stories he tells are true but his role in them is where the imagination comes greatly into play. He is the focus of every story in his book, but while it can't be proved, it's very unlikely that he took such a prominent role in every episode. I'm still trying to work out the details of the man's personality: blusterer, braggart, etc. he surely was. Evil? Bad? Stupid? Thoughtless? Oblivious to the harm he did to his family? I can only conjecture, but I've "lived with him" for a long time, so I've drawn cautious conclusions. It will be some months before I've got the text to where I want it, then I'll put it on line.
